Why we do Pull Ups
Ahh the dreaded pull up. Love to hate them, hate to love them. Well ladies and gentlemen, you gotta do’em. There are a myriad of benefits to doing pull ups which is why we program them so often at Body One! It's one of the most well known, most performed upper body ,and some might argue full body, exercise.
If you don’t know what a pull up is , here is a video!
Benefits of pull ups:
1. Strengthen the back muscles
By being able to lift your own body weight, you are training to strengthen the whole body but especially those of the upper back.
2. Strengthen the arms and shoulders
These muscles are accessory muscles to be able to do a pull up so you are strengthening those as well.
3. Improve grip strength
One of the hardest things about the pull up is being able to grip the bar properly and sustain holding the body up by the grip. This is what slowly gets trained and strengthened which will translate to all other barbell/dumbell exercises that you perform.
4. Improve overall tension abilities
There is a lot of tension associated with doing pull ups and by continuously training them you build stamina and can sustain more over a long period of time.
5. Challenge yourself
They’re hard but they get easier!!
